Netvane does not collect any information about you. No account, no analytics, no tracking, and nothing reported to the developer or to anyone else.
Netvane reports how much data your Mac's network interfaces are moving. It reads this from counters that macOS itself maintains — the same figures the operating system uses — and needs no special permission to do so.
Those counters are a running total of bytes, and nothing more. They contain no addresses, no destinations, no hostnames and no content, so Netvane cannot see what you are doing on the network, only how much of it there is.
The readings are held in memory while the app runs and are discarded when it quits. They are never written to disk and never transmitted.
Only your settings, written inside the app's own sandbox container on your Mac.
That is the complete list. There is no history file, no database and no log. Removing Netvane removes its settings with it, and Settings → General → Restore all settings clears them at any time.
Netvane is sandboxed, and it does hold the
com.apple.security.network.client entitlement. It is worth being precise
about why, because it is the only reason the app can reach the internet at all.
The entitlement exists solely for the built-in speed test, and the speed test runs only when you press the button. If you never run one, Netvane opens no network connections whatsoever — the throughput readout does not need them, because it reads counters rather than traffic.
When you do run a test, Netvane transfers throwaway data to and from
speed.cloudflare.com, a free public endpoint operated by Cloudflare, Inc.
That transfer is the measurement: the data sent is random bytes generated on
the spot, and the data received is discarded as it arrives. No personal information is
included, and no account or key is involved.
As with any request to any server, Cloudflare will see your IP address and the ordinary metadata of the connection. Their handling of that is covered by the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
The result is shown in the app and kept for that session only. It is not saved, not uploaded, and not reported to anybody.
